Lords private members' bills

The House of Lords considered three private members' bills on Friday 12 December. They cover medical innovation, cohabitation rights and empowering the House of Lords to expel or suspend members.

A private member's bill is a type of public bill (that affects the public). Private members' bills must go through the same set of procedures as other public bills.

Medical Innovation Bill

A bill to encourage responsible innovation in medical treatment.

Cohabitation Rights Bill

A bill to provide certain protections for persons who live together as a couple or have lived together as a couple. It also makes provision about the property of deceased persons who are survived by a cohabitant.

A bill to empower the House of Lords to expel or suspend members.
