House of Lords back to business

The House of Lords returns from recess on Monday 24 February, as members continue scrutinising public bills and investigating government activity through committee work.

Pensions Bill
The bill seeks to define laws around pensions and benefits payable to people in connection with bereavement. It enters report stage, a further chance for scrutiny, in the Lords on Monday 24 February.
Immigration Bill
The Immigration Bill begins committee stage, the first chance for line by line scrutiny, in the Lords on Monday 3 March. The bill covers issues including access to services, facilities and employment by reference to immigration status, and marriage and civil partnership involving certain foreign nationals.
Syria and the Middle East debate
Peers will debate recent developments in Syria and the Middle East from 1pm on Thursday 27 February.

Lords committee work
The Lords EU Sub-Committee on Economic and Financial Affairs recently published its report looking at EU proposals for rescuing failing banks, describing them as inadequately funded, overly complicated and politically unrealistic.
The Lords Communications Committee continues its investigation into broadcast general election debates on Tuesday 25 February. It will hear from the US Commission on Presidential Debates and experts on leaders' debates around the world.
On Wednesday 26 February, the Lords Constitution Committee will take evidence from Lord Kakkar, chairman of the House of Lords Appointments Commission.
