Lords debates forestry

Peers asked the government what plans it has for the expansion and management of the public forest estate following the report of the Independent Panel on Forestry, on Wednesday 12 February.
Lords outlined the benefits of protecting woodland, including the protection of habitats for wildlife and flora, the provision of places for people to visit and flood reduction, and discussed the establishment of a new forestry body to determine the future of forests and woodlands in the UK. They considered how this new body would work with the Forestry Commission and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and the responsibilities it should have.
Members also asked what steps are being taken to continue and strengthen work around disease prevention in trees.
This was a question for short debate (QSD), which was limited to one hour, and took place in the chamber. Through QSDs members are able to discuss current issues and draw the government's attention to concerns.
