Lords debates NHS seven-day working

Members of the House of Lords considered the implications of the introduction of seven-day working in the NHS, yesterday (Thursday 6 February).
The debate centred on the link between poorer outcomes for patients and reduced levels of service provision at weekends. Members spoke of the need to meet patient and public expectations, but also highlighted the implications for staff, training and budgets. The necessity of the transition to seven-day working being matched in the community - though GPs and social and community services was also discussed.
This was a question for short debate (QSD), limited to one hour, which took place in the Lords chamber. Through QSDs members are able to discuss current issues and draw the government's attention to concerns.
