Leasehold Reform (Amendment) Bill: Report Stage

This Bill, sponsored by Mr Philip Hollobone MP, seeks to make an amendment to the 1993 Leasehold Reform, Housing and Urban Development Act in order to assist long leaseholders of flats who are unable to sign, for whatever reason, the legal notices necessary to trigger an individual lease renewal or the collective enfranchisement process.

The Bill has now completed all of its stages in the House of Commons; it will now move to the House of Lords for consideration.

Deep Sea Mining Bill: Report Stage

The Bill sponsored by Sheryll Murray MP, seeks to make provision about deep sea mining; and for connected purposes.

The Bill has now completed all of its stages in the House of Commons; it will now move to the House of Lords for consideration.

Armed Forces (Prevention of Discrimination) Bill: Second Reading

This Bill sponsored by Thomas Docherty MP, seeks to provide that certain offences committed towards members of the armed forces shall be treated as aggravated; to prohibit discrimination against individuals in terms of provision of goods and services on the grounds that they are members of the armed forces; and for connected purposes.

This Bill started its second reading debate but the debate was adjourned. It is expected to resume its debate on Friday 28 February 2014.

Train Companies (Minimum Fares) Bill: Second Reading

This Bill sponsored by Thomas Docherty MP, seeks to require train companies to offer customers the cheapest available fare as a first option; and for connected purposes. 

The Second Reading stage of this Bill has now been scheduled for Friday 28 February 2014.

International Development (Official Development Assistance Target) Bill: Second Reading

This Bill sponsored by Thomas Docherty MP, seeks to make provision about the meeting by the United Kingdom of the target for official development assistance (ODA) to constitute 0.7 per cent of gross national income; to make provision for independent verification that ODA is spent efficiently and effectively; and for connected purposes.

The Second Reading stage of this Bill has now been scheduled for Friday 28 February 2014.

Jobs Guarantee Scheme (Research) Bill: Second Reading

This Bill sponsored by Thomas Docherty MP, seeks to to require the Secretary of State to undertake a programme of research into a scheme designed to provide guaranteed employment for those aged 18 to 24 and those aged 25 and over who have been in receipt of Jobseekers Allowance for 1 year or for 2 years; to require the Secretary of State to report the results of the research to the House of Commons within six months of completion; and for connected purposes.

The Second Reading stage of this Bill has now been scheduled for Friday 28 February 2014.

Gangmasters Licensing Authority (Extension of Powers) Bill: Second Reading

This Bill sponsored by Andy Sawford MP, seeks to extend the powers of the Gangmasters Licensing Authority to enable it to regulate employment agencies in all sectors of the economy; and for connected purposes.

The Second Reading stage of this Bill has now been scheduled for Friday 28 February 2014.

Zero Hours Contracts Bill: Second Reading

This Bill sponsored by Andy Sawford MP, seeks to prohibit the use of zero hours employment contracts.

Control of Offshore Wind Turbines Bill: Adjourned debate on Second Reading [17 January]

This Bill sponsored by Mr Christopher Chope MP, seeks to restrict the height, number, location and subsidies of wind turbines situated offshore within 20 miles of the coast.

The Second Reading stage of this Bill has now been scheduled for Friday 28 February 2014.

Employment Opportunities Bill: Second Reading

Ths Bill sponsored by Mr Christopher Chope MP, seeks to introduce more freedom, flexibility and opportunity for those seeking employment in the public and private sectors; and for connected purposes.

The Second Reading stage of this Bill has now been scheduled for Friday 28 February 2014.

Extension of Franchise (House of Lords) Bill [Lords]: Second Reading

This Bill sponsored by Stephen Pound MP, seeks to make provision for a Member of the House of Lords to vote at elections to the House of Commons.

The Bill was not moved for debate. There is no indication at this time when the Bill will progress further.

EU Membership (Audit of Costs and Benefits) Bill

This Bill sponsored by Mr Christopher Chope MP, seeks to require an independent audit of the benefits and costs of UK membership of the European Union.

The Second Reading stage of this Bill has now been scheduled for Friday 28 February 2014.

Asylum (Time Limit) Bill: Second Reading

This Bill sponsored by Mr Christopher Chope MP, seeks to make require that asylum claims in the United Kingdom be lodged within three months of the claimant’s arrival in the United Kingdom; and that persons who have already entered the United Kingdom and wish to make an asylum claim must do so within three months of the passing of this Act.

The Second Reading stage of this Bill has now been scheduled for Friday 28 February 2014.

Foreign Nationals (Access to Public Services) Bill: Second Reading

This Bill sponsored by Mr Philip Hollobone MP, seeks to make provision to exclude from the United Kingdom foreign nationals found guilty of a criminal offence committed in the United Kingdom.

The Second Reading stage of this Bill has now been scheduled for Friday 28 February 2014.

House of Lords (Maximum Membership) Bill: Second Reading

This Bill sponsored by Mr Christopher Chope MP, seeks to provide for a maximum limit on the number of Peers entitled to vote in the House of Lords; and to provide for a moratorium on new appointments.

The Second Reading stage of this Bill has now been scheduled for Friday 28 February 2014.

House of Commons Members’ Fund Bill: Second Reading

This Bill sponsored by Mr Peter Lilley MP, seeks to amend and consolidate provisions relating to the House of Commons Members’ Fund, which assists former Members and their dependants who are in financial difficulty.

The Second Reading stage of this Bill has now been scheduled for Friday 28 February 2014.

Private Members' Bills are Public Bills introduced by MPs and Lords who are not government ministers.

As with other Public Bills, their purpose is to change the law as it applies to the general population.
