Members of the Lords, including a number of current and former city councillors, a vice president of the Local Government Association debated the Local Government Finance Settlement, on Thursday 9 January

Lords considered the latest Local Government Finance Settlement. A number of peers expressed concern at cuts to local government budgets, and highlighted the pressures to increase spending that are placed on local authorities, including rising fuel bills and demographic change (particularly an increase in life-expectancy). Members also discussed council tax rates, and highlighted the need to promote local businesses by ensuring they can find premises if they need them.
