The Speaker has announced that Professor Sir Ian Kennedy will be put forward for re-appointment as Chair of the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority, for an eighteen month term.

Under the Parliamentary Standards Act 2009, the Speaker selects a candidate for the chair of IPSA. The Act stipulates that the candidate must be recruited on merit on the basis of fair and open competition, and that the choice must be agreed by the Speaker's Committee for the Independent Parliament Standards Authority established under the Act, which happened on 16 July. Dame Denise Platt chaired the independent recruitment panel.

The appointment is made by Her Majesty on an address of the House of Commons. The matter will come before the House later this year.
