The Houses of Parliament will be switching off all non-essential lights from 10pm until 11pm on Monday 4 August in support of Lights Out. The clock faces of the Elizabeth Tower will remain on as a commemorative light to mark the event.
Lights Out is the headline project of 14-18 NOW, a major cultural programme taking place across the United Kingdom to mark the centenary of the First World War. Everyone in the UK is invited to turn off their lights for one hour, leaving on a single light or candle to commemorate the hour that Britain entered World War, 1 one hundred years ago.
