Home Secretary, Theresa May, made a statement in the House of Commons on Thursday 10 July 2014 on the use of communications data and interception. Yvette Cooper, Shadow Home Secretary, responded to the statement on behalf of the Opposition.

Data Retention and Investigatory Powers Bill
On 10 July 2014 the Government announced that emergency legislation would be introduced on access to telecommunications data.
The Data Retention and Investigatory Powers Bill, and accompanying explanatory notes, were published in draft on 10 July. They are available on the GOV.UK website.
The final Bill, with further accompanying documents, is expected to be published and given first reading on Monday 14 July 2014.
The Government also announced that all Commons stages of the Bill are scheduled to take place on Tuesday 15 July 2014.
