Parliament to hold free seminar in Norwich on engaging with legislation

Are you interested in finding out how you can have your say on proposed laws as they are progressing through Parliament?
Parliament’s Outreach Service is to hold a free Public Bill Seminar on Thursday 19 June 2014, 4-6pm, in Norwich, for individuals and groups interested in finding out how to engage with Parliament’s scrutiny of legislation.
The seminar will demonstrate how you can best engage with MPs and Peers and improve your campaigning.
It will be chaired by Professor Alan Finlayson of the School of Political, Social and International Studies of the University of East Anglia.
Speakers will include Parliamentarians and senior experts from the House of Commons and the House of Lords including a committee specialist from the Energy and Climate Change Committee.
Staff from the Houses of Parliament Outreach Service will also be on hand to answer any questions on the parliamentary scrutiny of a bill and gave advice on how to track the progress of bills.
What the Public Bill Seminar will look at
The seminar will cover
- How a Bill becomes an Act: from draft to Royal Assent
- How MPs and Peers scrutinise and challenge legislation
- How you can submit evidence to Public Bill Committees and engage with MPs and Peers
- How Select Committees work
