National Health Service (Amended Duties and Powers) Bill: Second Reading

This Bill, sponsored by Clive Efford MP, seeks to re-establish the Secretary of State’s legal duty to provide national health services in England; to amend the provisions of the Health and Social Care Act 2012 relating to Monitor; to repeal the regulations made under section 75 of that Act; to make other amendments to the provisions in that Act relating to competition and provision of private health services; and for connected purposes.

This Bill completed its second reading stage following a division and was committed to a public bill committee (Division number 90, Ayes 241, Noes 18).

Zero Hours Contracts Bill: Second Reading

This Bill, sponsored by Ian Mearns MP, seeks to limit the use of zero-hours contracts; and for connected purposes.

This Bill started its second reading debate but the debate was adjourned. Debate is expected to resume on the Bill on Friday 28 November 2014.

Private Members' Bill passed at second reading without debate

At the end of the sitting at 2.30pm bills cannot be debated, but may pass second reading if the motion is not objected to.

Local Government (Religious etc Observances) Bill: Second Reading

This Bill, sponsored by Jake Berry MP, seeks to make provision about the inclusion at local authority meetings of observances that are, and about powers of local authorities in relation to events that to any extent are, religious or related to a religious or philosophical belief.

This Bill completed its second reading without a debate and was committed to a public bill committee.

Public Services (Ownership and User Involvement) Bill: Second Reading

This Bill, sponsored by Caroline Lucas MP, seeks to promote public ownership of public services; to introduce a presumption in favour of service provision by public sector and not-for-profit entities; and to put in place mechanisms to increase the accountability, transparency and public control of public services, including those operated by private companies.

The second reading stage of this Bill has been rescheduled for Friday 27 February 2015.

Carers Bedroom Entitlement (Social Housing Sector) Bill: Second Reading

This Bill, sponsored by Barbara Keeley MP, seeks to provide that people in receipt of Universal Credit and Housing Benefit and accommodated in the social housing sector be entitled to an additional bedroom related to caring responsibilities or overnight care; and for connected purposes.

The second reading stage of this Bill has been rescheduled for Friday 9 January 2015.

Armed Forces (Prevention of Discrimination) (No. 2) Bill: Second Reading

This Bill, sponsored by Thomas Docherty MP, seeks to make provision in relation to the reserve forces of the Crown; to provide that certain offences committed towards members of the armed forces and their families shall be treated as aggravated; to prohibit discrimination against members of the armed forces and their families in terms of provision of goods, services and employment; and for connected purposes.
