From dusk on Remembrance Sunday, a projection of falling poppies will light up the Elizabeth Tower (Big Ben) to commemorate one hundred years since the outbreak of World War One.

The poppies will continue to fall throughout the evening on Remembrance Sunday.  The projection is a key moment in Parliament’s contribution to the centenary commemorations, which also includes historical and educational resources that have been made available on Parliament’s website.

Rt Hon. John Bercow MP, Speaker of the House of Commons, said:

"The legacy of World War One had an impact not merely on the generation that fought and sacrificed in the war, but also on those that followed them.  Like many national institutions, Parliament was radically altered by the war, and it is appropriate that the centenary should be prominently remembered in this manner."

Sir Alan Haselhurst, Chair of the Administration Committee, said:

“Parliament is honoured through the projections on the Elizabeth Tower to commemorate the centenary of the First World War, and the members and staff of both the Commons and Lords who died while serving their country.”
