Douglas Carswell elected MP for Clacton

Douglas Carswell of the UK Independence Party has become Member of Parliament for Clacton after winning the by-election held in that constituency on Thursday 9 October 2014.

The by-election was called after Douglas Carswell announced his intention to resign as Conservative MP for Clacton on 28 August 2014 and to stand as UKIP candidate in the by-election that would follow.
