This week in the House of Commons MPs debated ISIL in Syria, the UK's role in the Middle East, the Immigration Bill and more.

Legislation: Government Bills

Immigration Bill

The Bill passed report stage and third reading in the House of Commons on Tuesday 1 December 2015. The Bill has now passed to the House of Lords.

Charities (Protection and Social Investment) Bill

The Bill passed second reading in the House of Commons on Thursday 3 December 2015. The Bill will next be considered by a public bill committee.

Legislation: Private Members' Bills

One Private Members' Bill was introduced to the House following a Ten Minute Rule Motion this week:

On Friday 4 December 2015 MPs debated a number of Private Members' Bills

  • Riot Compensation Bill. The Bill passed second reading.
  • Pavement Parking (Protection of Vulnerable Pedestrians) Bill. The Bill was withdrawn.
  • Criminal Cases Review Commission (Information) Bill. The Bill passed second reading.
  • Assessment of Government Policies (Impact on Families) Bill. The debate on second reading was adjourned. The date for the second reading debate to be resumed has not yet been announced.

Backbench business debates

The subjects for two debates this week were determined by the Backbench Business Committee.

On Monday 30 November 2015 in the Commons Chamber, MPs took part in a general debate on the UK's role in the Middle East. 

On Thursday 3 December 2015 MPs took part in a Westminster Hall debate on the Fisheries policy.

Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday 2 December was cancelled for the debate on ISIL in Syria.

MPs debated a motion on ISIL in Syria (United Nations Security Council Resolution 2249) in the House of Commons Chamber on Wednesday 2 December 2015. This debate replaced the Opposition Day debate which has been rescheduled for Wednesday 9 December.
