Carry-over motions
A carry-over motion, approved by the House of Commons, allows a bill that has not received Royal Assent to resume its progress in the following session without having to start from the beginning.
Although Standing Order No 80A (13) allows twelve months from first reading for a bill to complete its passage through both Houses, ministers may table a motion to extend that period (Standing Order No 80A (14).
