Lords debates Palestine and Israel
30 January 2015
Members of the Lords, including a former UN director for the Middle East and a former minister for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, debated the Resolution of the House of Commons of 13 October 2014 that "this House believes that the Government should recognise the state of Palestine alongside the state of Israel, as a contribution to securing a negotiated two state solution", and that this recommendation has also been adopted by the European Parliament, and the Parliaments of Sweden, France, Ireland, Portugal and Luxembourg, on 29 January.
This is a general debate, which usually take place on a Thursday in the Lords chamber. During debates, Lords are able to put their experience to good use, checking and challenging the government.
Lord Wallace of Saltaire (Liberal Democrat), government spokesperson, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, responded on behalf of the government.
