Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, delivered his Summer Budget statement to the House of Commons on Wednesday 8 July 2015. This Budget statement set out the Government's policies following the general election of 7 May 2015.

Harriet Harman, Leader of the Opposition, responded to the Chancellor of the Exchequer's Summer Budget statement . MPs from all sides of the House also took part in the debate.

What happens after the Budget statement?

It is customary for the Leader of the Opposition to respond to the speech given by the Chancellor rather than the Shadow Chancellor. The Shadow Chancellor makes his response the day after the Budget statement during the Budget debates.

The Budget debates will continue on Thursday 9 July and Monday 13 July, and will conclude on Tuesday 14 July. Each day of debate will cover a different policy area.
