Members of the Lords, including composers, a former controller of arts for ITV and a trustee of the Barbican Centre Trust debated the contribution of creative industries to the UK economy on Thursday 18 June.

Members spoke about the success of creative industries in the UK, highlighting government figures stating they were worth £77 billion to the economy in 2013, with 1.71 million people employed in the creative industries.

Peers looked at ways smaller companies in the creative industries could be encouraged to grow, and whether there could be more investment in the arts. Others asked whether education in arts subjects could be improved, and discussed diversity in the creative industries.
