Lords private members' bills

The House of Lords will consider three private members' bills on Friday 19 June. The bills cover airports, Easter trading and political opinion polling.
A private member's bill is a type of public bill (that affects the public). Private members' bills must go through the same set of procedures as other public bills.

- What is second reading?
A bill to make amendments to the Airports Act 1986, to:
- enable the Secretary of State to give directions to airport operators “in the interests of ensuring sufficient national air infrastructure between hub and regional airports”
- require the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), when advising or being consulted by the Secretary of State, to take into account “the need to ensure adequate services between hub and regional airports”.

The Bill seeks to establish a Political Opinion Polling Regulation Authority (POPRA), to be responsible for setting rules for political opinion polling in the UK.
