Budget 2015 statement

Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, delivered the Budget Statement to the House of Commons on Wednesday 18 March 2015.
Edward Miliband, Leader of the Labour Party, responded on behalf of the Opposition during the debate on the Budget Resolutions. MPs from all sides of the House also took part in the debate on the Budget Resolutions.

What is in the Budget Statement?
The Budget statement includes:
- a review of how the UK economy is performing
- forecasts of how the UK economy will perform in the future
- details of any changes to taxation.
What happens after the Budget statement?
Debate takes place on the Budget Resolutions, moved at the end of the Chancellor’s Statement.
It is customary for the Leader of the Opposition to respond to the speech given by the Chancellor rather than the Shadow Chancellor.
The Shadow Chancellor makes his response the day after the Budget statement during the Budget debates.
The Budget debates continue on Thursday 19, Friday 20 and conclude on Monday 23 March 2015. Each day of debate will cover a different policy area:
- Thursday: Business
- Friday: Local growth
- Monday: Jobs, pensions and savings
