Members of the Lords, including a member of the Women and Sport Advisory Board and a governor of the London School of Economics, debated women’s economic empowerment both nationally and internationally, on Thursday 5 March.

Members discussed the range of breakthroughs achieved since International Women’s Day was established over a century ago. They spoke about the record numbers of women in higher management and running their own businesses, and highlighted the falling gender pay gap. Peers warned, however, that women continue to face barriers in their economic life, and gave examples of promotion at work and work-life balance.

Members also talked about a range of other subjects including ways to help homeless women, and how equal access to education for women could be achieved internationally.
