Flags designed by UK school children to fly in Parliament Square
13 May 2015 (updated on 13 May 2015)
Following nominations by Members of Parliament, 80 UK primary schools designed unique flags to represent their local communities as part of the Parliament in the Making programme. From this Friday the flags will fly in Parliament Square for one week.
Chosen from the first phase of flags submitted for this project, each flag will represent the Historic Counties of the UK. They will fly at two special events; in Parliament Square between 15 – 22 May and at the ‘Magna Carta Foundation of Liberty’ event, to celebrate 800 years since the sealing of Magna Carta, at Runnymede on 15 June.

The 2015 Flag Project
The 2015 Flag Project, run by Parliament in collaboration with artist Jonathan Parsons, invites schools from across the UK to collaboratively create a shared picture of democracy by designing a flag for a unique digital exhibition.
This special project aims to create a powerful visual collection to commemorate the 1265 Montfort Parliament, where representatives from towns and shires came together for the first time.
Each flag in the collection has been designed by students aged 7-11 across the UK to represent their local area or community.
Explore the flags by searching the collection using a constituency name or through the interactive map.
Aged between 7-11?
If you have been inspired by the exhibition, add your flag to the collection (each flag must be designed by students aged 7-11) until the end of 2015, and be part of this unique record. Upload your flag on the 2015 Flag Project exhibition menu and follow the instructions.
You can access a video workshop and download a toolkit to help you design an effective flag on the Flag Tools page.
