House of Lords Private Members’ Bill ballot 2015-16
27 May 2015 (updated on 27 May 2015)
On 9 January 2014 the House agreed that, from the start of this Parliament, a ballot should be held on the evening of each State Opening to determine the order of introduction of private members’ bills (draft laws put forward by individual members rather than the government) in the following days and weeks.
The first such ballot has now been held and the bills were drawn in the order set out below. For each bill, the name of the member in charge and the date available for introduction are indicated. Any member who is unavailable on the day offered may ask another member to introduce the bill on his or her behalf, but remains responsible for the bill. If, for any reason, a bill is not introduced on the day offered, the bill must wait until all the other balloted bills have been introduced.
