This week in the House of Commons MPs debated the Immigration Bill, the legalisation of Cannabis, the Charter for Budget responsibility and more.

Legislation: Government Bills

Housing and Planning Bill

The Housing and Planning Bill was presented in the Commons (First reading) on Tuesday 13 October. The date for second reading is yet to be announced.

Immigration Bill

The Immigration Bill had its second reading in the Commons on Tuesday 13 October and has been sent to Public Bill Committee for detailed examination and evidence gathering.

Cities and Local Government Bill: Second reading

The Cities and Local Government Devolution Bill had it's second reading in the Commons on Wednesday 14 October, the Bill will now be considered by a Committee of the whole House on a date to be announced.

Armed Forces Bill: Second reading

The Armed Forces Bill passed its second reading in the Commons on Thursday 15 October. The Bill will now be considered by a Select Committee who will report the Bill to the Commons on or before Thursday 17 December.

Legislation: Private Members Bills

Two Private Members Bills were introduced to the House following Ten Minute Rule Motions this week:

On Friday 16 October MPs debated the Access to Medical Treatments (Innovation) Bill. The Bill passed its second reading. The Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation) Bill started second reading debate but was adjourned. Debate is expected to resume on Friday 29 January 2016.

Debate on the Charter for Budget Responsibility

On Wednesday 15 October MPs debated the proposal that the Charter for Budget Responsibility: autumn 2015 update, be approved.  The motion was debated for 90 minutes and the House voted to approve the motion.

E-petitions debates

On Monday 12 October, in the Westminster Hall Chamber, MPs debated an e-petition on making the production, sale and use of cannabis legal.

Backbench business debates

On Monday 12 October in the Commons Chamber, MPs took part in two general debates which had been schedules by the Backbench Business Committee.
