Lords debates Chilcot Inquiry

Members of the Lords, including a former cabinet secretary and a practising QC, asked the government for its assessment of the case for discharging the chairman and members of the Chilcot Inquiry, on Thursday 22 October.
The debate also invited the Cabinet Secretary to set out a mechanism for an interim report to be produced on the basis of the evidence gathered.
Several members raised the issue of the delay in publication of the Chilcot Inquiry report, and the impact on families who lost loved ones in Iraq of the decision to set out a timetable which does not include a publication date. Other members called for patience, saying that the time to debate the Chilcot Inquiry should be once its findings are known.
This was a question for short debate. During debates, members are able to put their experience to good use, discussing current issues and drawing the government's attention to concerns.
The debate was proposed by former Attorney General, Lord Morris of Aberavon (Labour). Speakers included:
