Lords debates sport strategy

Members of the Lords, including the chair of UK Sport and a former paralympian, debated the government consultation paper: A New Strategy for Sport, on Thursday 15 October.
This was a general debate. They usually take place on a Thursday in the Lords chamber. During debates, members are able to put their experience to good use, discussing current issues and drawing the government's attention to concerns.
The debate was proposed by Lord Moynihan (Conservative). Speakers included:
- Lord Addington (Liberal Democrat), vice president of the UK Sports Association
- Baroness Campbell of Loughborough (Crossbench), former chair of UK Sport
- Lord Holmes of Richmond (Conservative), former paralympic swimmer
- Lord Pendry (Labour), president of the Football Foundation
Baroness Neville-Rolfe (Conservative), parliamentary under-secretary for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, responded on behalf of the government.
Lord Hayward (Conservative) gave his maiden speech.
