Lords debates sustainable development goals
18 September 2015
Members of the Lords, including a trustee of UNICEF UK and a member if the advisory board for Transparency International, debated the government’s objectives at the September sustainable development goals summit, on Wednesday 16 September.
The debate focused on the United Nations sustainable development agenda, a set of 17 sustainable development goals, aiming to end poverty, promote prosperity and people’s well-being, while protecting the environment, by 2030.
Peers asked how the government could contribute to the sustainable development goals, highlighting the importance of improving economic partnerships across the globe. They also spoke about a range of other subjects, including ways to reduce illicit financial flows, women’s empowerment, and how children could be better protected.
