Commons remaining stages (Report Stage and Third Reading)

MPs debated the Third Reading of the Finance Bill in the House of Commons on Tuesday 6 September 2016. The Bill passed Third Reading on division, (Division No. 61, Ayes 303 votes, Noes 250 votes).

MPs approved Amendment 145, relating to country-by-country reporting of taxes paid by multi-national corporations, without a division on Monday 5 September.

MPs approved New Clause 9, relating to the tax treatment of supplementary welfare payments in Northern Ireland, without a division on Tuesday 6 September.

Second Reading: Monday 11 April

MPs debated the Second Reading of the Finance (No. 2) Bill 2015-16 in the House of Commons on Monday 11 April 2016. The Bill passed Second Reading on division, (Division No. 233, Ayes 308 votes, Noes 248 votes).

MPs agreed a programme motion which timetables parts of the Bill to be considered by a Committee of the whole House, and the remainder in a Public Bill Committee.

What happens next?

The Bill now passes to the House of Lords for a general debate on all aspects of the Bill at Second reading 

This Bill is known as a "Money Bill". The House of Lords cannot amend Money Bills so Committee stage, Report stage and Third Reading are formalities.

Progress of the Bill

This Government Bill was introduced to the House of Commons on 22 March 2016. It had its second reading on 11 April 2016. A carry-over motion for this Bill was approved on 11 April 2016 so it could be carried over from the 2015-16 session to the current one and continue to be debated.

The Bill was considered by a Committee of the whole House on Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 June.

The title of the Bill has been changed as it is now the first Finance Bill of the 2016-17 session.
