The House of Lords returns from February recess on 22 February. Catch up on the latest legislation news and updates on the work of Lords committees.

Other legislation currently in progress includes:
Armed Forces Bill
A bill to define laws around service discipline, war pensions and Ministry of Defence fire-fighters.
Second reading took place in the Lords on 11 February.
Bank of England and Financial Services Bill
A bill that will affect the Bank of England, covering issues such as regulation of financial services and issue of banknotes.
Third reading took place in the Lords on 19 January.
Education and Adoption Bill
The bill covers schools in England that are causing concern, including provision about their conversion into Academies and about intervention powers. It also covers joint arrangements for carrying out local authority adoption functions in England.
The bill completed third reading in the Lords on 8 February, and went to the Commons for consideration of Lords amendments in 'ping pong'.
Housing and Planning Bill
The bill will define laws around housing, estate agents, rent charges, planning and compulsory purchase.
The bill is currently in committee stage, with the next day scheduled for 1 March.
Immigration Bill
The Immigration Bill will define the law around immigration and asylum.
Committee stage of the bill concluded on 9 February, report stage is to be scheduled.
Scotland Bill
The bill amends the Scotland Act 1998, and defines powers and responsibilities of Scottish ministers.
Committee stage in the Lords continues on 22 February.
Trade Union Bill
A bill to define laws around industrial action, trade unions, employers’ associations and the functions of the Certification Officer.
Committee stage in the Lords continues on 23 February.
Welfare Reform and Work Bill
The bill includes measures on employment, welfare, social mobility, the benefit cap and social housing.
The bill returned to the Commons for consideration of Lords amendments in 'ping pong'.

Lord Speaker welcomes President Carter to Parliament
President Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the USA, visited the House of Lords on 3 February to deliver a lecture on the eradication of Guinea worm disease as the second of the Lord Speaker’s global lecture series.
