The following Bills were debated on Friday 22 January 2016:

NHS (Charitable Trusts Etc) Bill: Report Stage

This Bill, sponsored by Wendy Morton MP, seeks to make provision for, and in connection with, the removal of the Secretary of State’s powers under the National Health Service Act 2006 to appoint trustees; to make provision transferring to Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity the right to a royalty conferred by Schedule 6 to the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988; and for connected purposes.

The Bill passed Third Reading in the House of Commons; it will next be considered by the House of Lords.

Local Area Referendum (Disposal of School Playing Fields) Bill: Second Reading

This Bill, sponsored by Tom Pursglove MP, seeks to make provision for a scheme for the triggering and holding of a local area referendum to approve a proposed sale of or including school playing fields by a local education authority or state-funded school; and for connected purposes.

The Second Reading of this Bill was adjourned. The Second Reading debate is expected to resume on Friday 11 March 2016.

This Bill, sponsored by Caroline Lucas MP, seeks to require the Secretary of State to assume control of passenger rail franchises when they come up for renewal; and for connected purposes.

Working Time Directive (Limitation) Bill: Second Reading

This Bill, sponsored by Christopher Chope MP, seeks to limit the application of the EU Working Time Directive; and for connected purposes.

The Second Reading stage of this Bill has been scheduled for Friday 29 January 2016.

Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (Statutory Requirement) Bill: Second Reading

This Bill, sponsored by Caroline Lucas MP, seeks to require the Secretary of State to provide that Personal, Social, Health and Economic education (PSHE) be a statutory requirement for all state-funded schools; for PSHE to include Sex and Relationships Education (SRE) and education on ending violence against women and girls; to provide for initial and continuing teacher education and guidance on best practice for delivering and inspecting PSHE and SRE education; and for connected purposes.

The Second Reading stage of this Bill has been scheduled for Friday 11 March 2016.

Department of Energy and Climate Change (Abolition) Bill: Second Reading

This Bill, sponsored by Peter Bone MP, seeks to make provision for the abolition of the Department of Energy and Climate Change and for its functions to be absorbed into the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.

The Second Reading stage of this Bill has been scheduled for Friday 11 March 2016.

Crown Tenancies Bill: Second Reading

This Bill, sponsored by Mark Pawsey MP, seeks to provide that Crown tenancies may be assured tenancies for the purposes of the Housing Act 1988, subject to certain exceptions; to modify the assured tenancies regime in relation to certain Crown tenancies; and for connected purposes.

The Second Reading stage of this Bill has been scheduled for Friday 29 January 2016.

Benefit Sanctions Regime (Entitlement to Automatic Hardship Payments) Bill: Second Reading

This Bill, sponsored by Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh MP, seeks to amend the system of benefits sanctions; establish automatic hardship payments where sanctions have been imposed; and for connected purposes.

The Second Reading stage of this Bill has been scheduled for Friday 11 March 2016.

Negligence and Damages Bill: Second Reading

This Bill, sponsored by Andy McDonald MP, seeks  to make provision about liability for negligence in relation to psychiatric illness; to amend the law relating to damages in respect of personal injuries and death; and for connected purposes.

The Second Reading stage of this Bill has been scheduled for Friday 11 March 2016.

No Fault Divorce Bill: Second Reading

This Bill, sponsored by Richard Bacon MP, seeks to make provision for the dissolution of a marriage or civil partnership when each party has separately made a declaration that the marriage or civil partnership has irretrievably broken down without a requirement by either party to satisfy the Court of any other facts; and for connected purposes. 

The Second Reading stage of this Bill has been scheduled for Friday 11 March 2016.

Marriage and Civil Partnership Registration (Mothers’ Names) Bill: Second Reading

This Bill, sponsored by Christina Rees MP, seeks to make provision about the recording of the names of the mother of each party to a marriage or civil partnership for registration purposes; to make provision for requiring such information to be displayed on marriage certificates and civil partnership certificates; and for connected purposes.

The Second Reading stage of this Bill has been scheduled for Friday 5 February 2016.

House of Commons (Administration) Bill: Second Reading

This Bill, sponsored by Sir Paul Beresford MP, seeks to consolidate and amend provisions about the House of Commons Members’ Fund; and to make provision about the House of Commons resources estimates.

The Second Reading stage of this Bill has been scheduled for Friday 29 January 2016.

Marriage Registration Bill: Second Reading

This Bill, sponsored by Caroline Spelman MP, seeks to make provision about the registration of marriages.
