Members of the Lords, including a senior university lecturer in international relations, asked the government whether it is their policy that EU citizens lawfully resident or working in the UK at the date when the UK leaves the EU will have an unconditional right to remain in the UK, in the House of Lords on Thursday 14 July.

This was a question for short debate. During debates, members are able to put their experience to good use, discussing current issues and drawing the government's attention to concerns.

The debate was proposed by Lord Lucas (Conservative), a former member of the Digital Skills Committee.

Members taking part included:

Lord Keen of Elie (Conservative), spokesperson for the Home Office, responded on behalf of the government.
