Summary of the Finance Bill 2015-16 to 2016-17

A Bill to grant certain duties, to alter other duties, and to amend the law relating to the National Debt and the Public Revenue, and to make further provision in connection with finance.

This Bill is a Public Bill introduced to Parliament by the Government.

The Bill was presented to the House on 14 July 2015. On Tuesday 21 July 2015, the Bill received its Second Reading in the House of Commons where MPs debated the main principles of the Bill. The Bill passed second reading on Monday 11 April 2016.

The House of Commons agreed a carry-over motion for this Bill on 11 April 2016 allowing consideration of the Bill to resume in the 2016-17 session.

This Bill has now been committed to a Public Bill Committee which will hold its first meeting on Thursday 30 June. Further dates will be agreed once the Bill Committee has met, although Bill Committees usually meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The Public Bill Committee is expected to finish and report the Bill to the House by Thursday 14 July. Please note, there are no oral evidence sessions scheduled.

Deadline for submissions

The Public Bill Committee is now able to receive written evidence. Your submission should be emailed to scrutiny@parliament.uk. The sooner you send in your submission, the more time the Committee will have to take it into consideration.

The Committee is expected to meet for the first time on Thursday 30 June 2016; it will stop receiving written evidence at the end of the Committee stage on Thursday 14 July 2016.

Please note that when the Committee reports it is no longer able to receive written evidence and it can report earlier than the expected deadline of 5.00pm on Thursday 14 July 2016.
