Lords private members' bills
6 May 2016
The House of Lords looked at four private members' bills on Thursday 5 May, covering drink drive limits, the registration of driving instructors, the Criminal Case Review Commission and the House of Commons Members' Fund.
A private member's bill is a type of public bill (that affects the public). Private members' bills must go through the same set of procedures as other public bills. Three of these private members' bills were first introduced in the House of Commons.
Criminal Cases Review Commission (Information) Bill (3rd Reading):
The bill will extend the Criminal Cases Review Commission’s powers to obtain information.

The other private members bills proceeded without debate. The House passed the Driving Instructors (Registration) Bill 2015-16, and this bill now awaits Royal Assent.
The House also passed the Road Traffic Act 1988 (Alcohol Limits) (Amendment) Bill [HL] and it has been sent to the House of Commons for their consideration.
The House of Commons Members’ Fund Bill concluded its committee stage, with no amendments, and will go directly to third reading (yet to be scheduled).
