MPs debated NHS bursaries in the House of Commons on Wednesday 4 May 2016. The subject for debate was chosen by the Opposition.
NHS bursaries
MPs disagreed to the Opposition motion. (Division No. 286, Ayes 158 votes, Noes 277 votes)
The Opposition motion for debate was:
"That this House recognises the contribution of student nurses, midwives, allied health professionals and other healthcare staff; has serious concerns about the potential impact of removing NHS bursaries on the recruitment and retention of staff; and calls on the Government to drop its plans to remove NHS bursaries and instead to consult on how it can best fund and support the future healthcare workforce."

About Opposition day debates
Opposition days are days allocated in the House of Commons in each session for the discussion of subjects chosen by the Opposition.
Seventeen days are at the disposal of the Leader of the Opposition, the leader of the largest opposition party, to decide which matters are debated. Three days are usually divided between the other opposition parties.
The Opposition generally use them to raise questions of policy and administration. Frequently, two separate subjects are debated on an opposition day.
