This week in the House of Commons MPs debated the Energy Bill, Housing and Planning Bill, Immigration Bill, Armed Forces Bill, and more.
Legislation: Government Bills
Energy Bill
This Government Bill was introduced to Parliament on Thursday 9 July 2015 and had its First Reading in the House of Commons on Thursday 5 November 2015. It had its second reading on Monday 18 January 2016.
The Bill completed its Committee stage on 4 February 2016. Remaining Commons stages were debated in the Commons on 14 March 2016. The Bill then went to the House of Lords for consideration. MPs debated further amendments made by the House of Lords on Monday 9 May 2016.
Housing and Planning Bill
MPs considered amendments made by the House of Lords to the Housing and Planning Bill on Wednesday 11 May 2016.
The motion relating to Lords Amendment 47E was certified as relating exclusively to England so a double majority was required for the motion to be passed. MPs and MPs representing constituencies in England each voted to approve the motion to disagree, so Lords Amendment 47E was not made.
Immigration Bill
This Government Bill was introduced to the House of Commons on 17 September 2015. It had its second reading on 13 October 2015. The Public Bill Committee on the Immigration Bill concluded on 17 November 2015.
Remaining Commons stages were debated in the Commons on 1 December 2015. The Bill was then considered by the House of Lords on Tuesday 26 April before returning to the Commons on 25 April. The Bill then went to the House of Lords for consideration. MPs debated further amendments made by the House of Lords on Monday 9 May 2016.
Armed Forces Bill
This Government Bill was introduced to the House of Commons on 16 September 2015. It had its second reading on 15 October 2015. The Bill was considered by a committee of the whole house on 16 December 2015.
The Bill then went to the House of Lords for consideration. The Commons considered Lords Amendments on Wednesday 11 May. MPs debated amendments made by the House of Lords on Wednesday 11 May 2016. MPs approved Lords Amendments 1 and 2 to the Armed Forces Bill without a division.
