Both the House of Commons and the House of Lords have agreed on the text of the Commonwealth Development Corporation Bill. The Bill received Royal Assent on 23 February 2017 becoming an Act of Parliament (law).

The Commonwealth Development Corporation Bill aims to:

  • amend the amount of the limit in section 15 of the Commonwealth Development Corporation Act 1999 on the government’s financial assistance.

Royal Assent

The Commonwealth Development Corporation Bill received Royal Assent on 23 February 2017, becoming an Act of Parliament (law).

Commons remaining stages (Report stage and Third Reading)

Both the Report stage and Third Reading of the Bill took place on Tuesday 10 January 2017.

The Third Reading of the Bill was passed without a division. The Bill then progressed to the House of Lords for consideration. The House of Lords passed the Bill without amendment and it received Royal Assent on 23 February 2017.

Committee stage

The Public Bill Committee considered the Bill on 6 December 2016. The Public Bill Committee then reported the Bill to the House with amendments.

Second Reading

MPs debated the Second Reading of the Commonwealth Development Corporation Bill in the House of Commons on Tuesday 29 November 2016. MPs debate the main principles of the Bill at Second Reading.

The Bill passed Second Reading without a division and will be considered by a Public Bill Committee, which is expected to report by Thursday 8 December.
