Members of the Lords, including the chair of the Housing Voice campaign and a trustee of Homeless Link and the Wandle Housing Association, debated the impact of the shortage of housing on the desire of people, particularly the young, to live in the communities where they were born, raised and educated, in the House of Lords on Thursday 3 November.

This was a general debate. They normally take place on a Thursday in the chamber. During debates, members are able to put their experience to good use, discussing current issues and drawing the government's attention to concerns.

The debate was proposed by Lord Griffiths of Burry Port (Labour), former member of the Birnbeck Housing Association.

Members taking part included:

  • Baroness Grender (Liberal Democrat), trustee of Homeless Link and the Wandle Housing Association
  • Earl of Listowel (Crossbench), trustee of young persons' welfare charity The Michael Sieff Foundation
  • Lord Whitty (Labour), chair of the Housing Voice campaign

Lord Bourne of Aberystwyth (Conservative), parliamentary under-secretary in the Department for Communities and Local Government, responded on behalf of the government.
