MPs debated community pharmacies and police officer safety in the House of Commons on Wednesday 2 November. The subjects of the debates were chosen by the Opposition.

Community pharmacies

Shadow Secretary of State for Health, Jonathan Ashworth, opened the debate for the Opposition.

Minister for Community Health and Care, David Mowat, responded on behalf of the Government.

MPs approved the Opposition Motion on community pharmacies, as amended by the Government, without a division.

Police officer safety

Shadow Secretary of State for the Home Department, Diane Abbott, opened the debate for the Opposition.

Minister for Policing and the Fire Service, Brandon Lewis, responded on behalf of the Government.

About Opposition day debates

Opposition days are days allocated in the House of Commons in each session for the discussion of subjects chosen by the Opposition.

Seventeen days are at the disposal of the Leader of the Opposition, the leader of the largest opposition party, to decide which matters are debated. Three days are usually divided between the other opposition parties.

The Opposition generally use them to raise questions of policy and administration. Frequently, two separate subjects are debated on an opposition day.
