Lords private members' bills

The House of Lords debated three private members' bills on Friday 9 September, covering reforming the House of Lords by removing by-elections for hereditary peers, the conduct of lobbyists and budget responsibility.

A private member's bill is a type of public bill (that affects the public). Private members' bills must go through the same set of procedures as other public bills.

House of Lords Act 1999 (Amendment) Bill  (second reading)

A bill to amend the House of Lords Act 1999 to remove the by-election system for the election of hereditary peers.

Lobbying (Transparency) Bill (second reading)

A bill to establish a Registrar of Lobbyists, a register of lobbyists and a code of conduct for lobbyists.
