Members of the Lords, including a former chair of the Better Regulation Executive and a former minister of state in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, debated plans to ensure regulation is balanced, cost-effective, easy to understand and properly enforced, in the House of Lords on Thursday 7 December.

This was a balloted debate. They normally take place on a Thursday in the chamber. During debates, members are able to put their experience to good use, discussing current issues and drawing the government's attention to concerns.

The debate was proposed by Baroness Neville-Rolfe (Conservative), former minister of state in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

Members who took part included:

  • Baroness Altmann (Conservative), former chair, Lord Chancellor's Strategic Investment Board
  • Lord Curry of Kirkharle (Crossbench), former chair, Better Regulation Executive
  • Lord Mendelsohn (Labour), shadow spokesperson for business, energy and industrial strategy
  • Lord Stunell (Liberal Democrat), former parliamentary under-secretary in the Department for Communities and Local Government

Lord Henley (Conservative), parliamentary under-secretary in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, responded on behalf of the government.
