Learn about Parliament with our free online course

Parliament is re-running the popular online course “Introduction to the UK Parliament: people, processes and public participation” starting 27 February. 

Hosted on the online social learning platform FutureLearn, the three week course is an open and accessible opportunity for members of the public to learn more about Parliament and how it is essential to democracy.

What does the course cover?

The course is designed to increase public engagement and understanding of the work and role the UK Parliament.  

It covers the following areas:

  • the difference between Parliament and Government
  • the role and the changing nature of Parliamentary debates, including new digital debates
  • the steps and processes involved in making and changing legislation
  • the role of select committees
  • how citizens can engage with Parliament

How is the course taught?

The course introduces ideas in steps via videos, articles and discussion, with challenges and tips along the way to test and build understanding about the UK Parliament and its processes.
