The King of Spain, King Felipe VI, addressed members of both Houses of Parliament in the Royal Gallery of the House of Lords on Wednesday 12 July.

King Felipe was accompanied by Queen Letizia. The last state visit from Spain was by King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia in 1986.

The Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow MP, gave a welcome address introducing King Felipe’s speech.

The Lord Speaker, Lord Fowler, thanked the king following his speech.

After the address, at a private reception with parliamentarians, King Felipe and Queen Letizia had the opportunity to see the Marriage Act of Prince Philip of Spain and Queen Mary, which was passed in 1554. The Act is now kept in the Parliamentary Archives.
