‘A remarkable stepping-stone’ – How Laws Affect Lives

Individuals from the LGBTQ+ community share personal stories about how changes to the law have directly impacted their lives.
To mark the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Sexual Offences Act Parliament has created ‘Your Story, Our History’, three short films focusing on laws around relationships, gender identity and sexual equality.
Geoff and Peter’s story
Geoff and Peter are a cisgender, same sex couple. They have been together for 37 years and were the first gay couple in Shropshire to have a Civil Partnership.
Their story explores life before the 1967 Sexual Offences Act and how the Act has changed the lives of many LGBTQ+ people for the better.
Jake’s story
Jake had already transitioned by the time the Sexual Recognition Act had been passed in 2004. His experiences echo the significance of the Act on the lives of many Transgendered people.
Jake’s story explores his experiences growing up, his child-hood and how the passing of the 2004 Act helped to shape his gender identity.
Nadine and Tia’s story
Nadine and Tia are a young queer couple from South East London.
They share their view of the 2003 Local Government Act, its impact on their education and the important role this played in shaping their lives as queer women of colour.
