Lords debates regional and national inequalities within UK

Members of the House of Lords debated the case for a comprehensive agenda to address regional and national inequalities within the UK on Thursday 30 November. Peers taking part included a former board member of regional development agency One North East and a former deputy prime minister and secretary of state for local government and the regions.
This was a balloted debate. They normally take place on a Thursday in the chamber. During debates, members are able to put their experience to good use, discussing current issues and drawing the government's attention to concerns.
The debate was proposed by Lord Liddle (Labour), Cumbria county councillor.

- Lord Bird (Crossbench), founder and editor-in-chief of the Big Issue
- Lord Prescott (Labour), former deputy prime minister and secretary of state for local government and the regions
- Lord Shinkwin (Conservative), former member of the Lords Financial Exclusion Committee
- Lord Shipley (Liberal Democrat), former board member of regional development agency One North East
Lord Bourne of Aberystwyth (Conservative), parliamentary under-secretary for Wales, responded on behalf of the government.
