Telecommunications Infrastructure (Relief from Non-Domestic Rates) Bill: Lords third reading

The Telecommunications Infrastructure (Relief from Non-Domestic Rates) Bill had its third reading, a chance to 'tidy up' the bill and make changes, in the Lords on Wednesday 6 December.

Members discussed subjects including the accessibility and affordability of broadband and mobile networks.

Following the completion of third reading, the bill will now return to the Commons for consideration of Lords amendments.

Lords report stage: Tuesday 28 November

Members discussed subjects including broadband speeds, improving connectivity in rural areas and the time period for the availability of the relief.

Lords committee stage: Tuesday 24 October

The committee stage of this bill took place in Grand Committee, a room outside the Lords chamber. Any member can take part and decisions on amendments can be made, but no votes take place.

Members discussed a range of subjects including the assessment of rate relief and providing high quality telecommunications services to rural and hard to reach areas.

Lords second reading: Monday 9 October

Members discussed the key points raised by the bill including new fibre broadband investment not being subject to business rates until 2022 and the development of 5G.

Members also raised issues around wider access to superfast broadband.
