Members of the Lords, including the chair of the Farmer review on prisoner's family ties and the founder of The Big Issue, debated 'A Manifesto to Strengthen Families', in the House of Lords on Thursday 2 November.

This was a general debate. They normally take place on a Thursday in the chamber. During debates, members are able to put their experience to good use, discussing current issues and drawing the government's attention to concerns.

The debate was proposed by Lord Farmer (Conservative), chair, Farmer Review on Importance of Strengthening Prisoner's Family Ties to Prevent Re-offending and Intergenerational Crime.

Members who took part included:

Lord Agnew of Oulton (Conservative), parliamentary under-secretary in the Department for Education, responded on behalf of the government. This was his maiden speech.
