The House of Lords debated the key purpose and principles of three private members' bills on Friday 27 October covering compensation, work experience and funding and expenditure of political parties.

A private member's bill is a type of public bill (that affects the public). Private members' bills must go through the same set of procedures as other public bills.

Asset Freezing (Compensation) Bill

A bill to impose restrictions on assets owned by persons involved in conduct that gives support and assistance to terrorist organisations in the UK for the purpose of securing compensation for citizens of the UK affected by such conduct.

Unpaid Work Experience (Prohibition) Bill

A bill to prohibit unpaid work experience exceeding four weeks.

Democratic Political Activity (Funding and Expenditure) Bill

A bill to regulate funding and expenditure of political parties; phase in introduction of a cap on donations to political parties; count affiliation fees from trades unions and membership organisations to political parties as individual donations in prescribed circumstances; introduce public funding of political parties; modify rights of candidates and parties to election addresses; limit political parties’ expenditure between regulated periods and confer powers on the Electoral Commission.
