These roles will in future be combined by one person. Their departure comes at a time of significant cuts in the size of the civil service and review of quangos. 

PASC will examine what they have achieved while in office; what challenges they see for the future including the prospects for their now combined posts; reform to the public appointments system, and the consequences of current financial constraints on recruitment and morale in the civil service.
