In its final public evidence session on its inquiry into “What do Ministers do?”, the Public Administration Select Committee will quiz a minister from each of the governing parties about their roles in a coalition government on Tuesday 7 December in Committee Room 18 at the House of Commons

Witnesses:

At 10.30 am

  • Norman Baker MP and Mike Penning MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretaries of State for Transport

At 11.30 am

  • William Rickett CB, former senior civil servant and Dan Corry, former special adviser

In its final public evidence session, the Public Administration Select Committee will hear from two current ministers, a former civil servant and a former special adviser. The session will focus on the current realities of ministerial life. Particular issues that may arise include:

  • whether there are currently too many ministers?;
  • how productively ministers’ time is spent?;
  • whether there are functions ministers should no longer perform;
  • the impact of the coalition on the work of ministers; and
  • if there is a need to improve the training that ministers receive.
