Postal services in Scotland: MPs to visit rural post offices

The Scottish Affairs Committee will visit post offices in rural Scotland on Monday 6 December as part of its inquiry into postal services in Scotland.

Ian Davidson MP, Chair of the Committee, said:

“The Committee’s visit will focus on the particular challenges faced by Royal Mail and the Post Office in providing a universal postal service in rural and remote parts of Scotland.

“We are keen to hear views on the potential impact of the Postal Services Bill on the public and businesses that rely on the Royal Mail and the post office in communities such as Oban and Argyll.”

The Committee will visit Oban sorting office, Dalmally and Furnace post offices, and will also hold talks with business and postal service users.

Committee member and MP for Argyll and Bute, Alan Reid, said:

“The daily delivery and collection of mail and keeping post offices open are very important issues in remote communities. So I am very pleased that the Committee is visiting Argyll & Bute to talk to postal managers and workers and their customers and hear their opinions on how the service can be improved.”
